Kids Tournament
We had only 2 kids show up for our annual Kids Tournament on Saturday, June 9th.
It was a disappointment to the people who worked hard to get the tournament together and plan to make it a fun event for our kids.
Thanks to Vern & Nancy Page:they brought their two grandkids, Max and Sam who each got a free rod & reel. Dave, Vern & Nancy, their daughter and son in law, (Sam & Max’s mom and dad) Miriam, Charlie Smith, Erick Sandvik and yours truly joined the kids fishing and we had a lot of fun. Sam had a shark sucker for his first fish, the fish let go just at the floating dock we were fishing on. Max got a mangrove snapper and some pin fish.
I’d like to thank all the people who helped get the tournament, such as it was, together. Thanks to Virginia Botts & Joe Lynch for donating a bunch of squid and for getting the sandwiches donated from Lonzalo’s Pizzeria on Grand Ave. in New Port Richey. Also, Coopers Shrimp Shack who donated some shrimp which Mikee Wilkes picked up for us. Don’s Tackle at the USA Flea Market got us a fabulous deal on the Diawa rod & reel combos for the kids. Don’s shop is on 6th Ave booth 13-15 and he gives club members a 10% discount.
Here’s some pictures:
I was helping Sam with casting here, he learned fast.
Max hauled this pin fish in with his new rod & reel.
Max sure looks happy with his catch.
Sam looks equally happy with his fish.
All of us kids had a great time!
Erik Andersen’s Shark
Here’s Erik Andersen catching a Shark. Erik and Charlie Smith were out in Charlie’s favorite mackerel hole when Erik hooked into this big guy.
Here’s a big guy Erik picking on this poor little fish.
(cool hat Erik)
Wow! This shark is almost the size of Erik. Nice catch Eric. This sand shark is about 6′ long. (actually, it was 6′ 3 5/8″ by my calculation.)
Mikee Wilkes’ Gasperilla Point Trip
Mikee and his Veterans group took a trip to Gasperilla Point, near Punta Gorda and caught a bunch of red grouper & grunts. Mikee caught an 8′ nurse shark.
Here’ s some pictures.
The men, all brave veterans, God Bless them. The boat ( a sea worth craft)
The battle, (That’s Mikee) The beast
I figure this Nurse shark to be 8′ 7 3/4″ long The day’s catch (they let the shark go, too big for the table) Contact VP Mikee for information if you want to make a trip there.
Members tournament April 28th
Buck Hartman took the bragging rights for the April 28th Members Tournament, but if Andy Hemple entered he would have had plenty to brag about. Check these fish out. Too bad Andy, and it was a free tournament too!
Here’s Tom Rusiki with the big Kingfish fish, Ross and Andy on the right
