President’s Letter, July, 2012

Greetings, Oh sons and Daughters of the Salt n  Sea,

Things haven’t been what I expected these past few months. The Kid’s Tournament in June was a huge disappointment. Last year we had over twenty kids fishing in the tournament, this year we had exactly 2. That’s right, only 2 .
Don, of Don’s Tackle in the USA Flea Market, got the club a  really nice deal on Diawa rod and reel combos to give to the kids who fished and we only gave away 2.
Vern and Nancy Page brought their grandkids, Sam & Max, down to the river in New Port Richey.  Max and Sam had a great time catching some fish. (last year there wasn’t too many fish caught, so we changed locations) Dave, Eric, Charlie, Vern and Nancy, as well as Sam and Max’s parents and Miriam and I had a good time too, but it was still disappointing that only 2 kids came to fish. We had plenty of room to fish on the river and Sam & Max fished from the dock and did pretty well. Charlie, Vern, Eric and I joined them and had a great time.
Joe Lynch and Virginia Botts hooked us up with squid and also got  sandwiches donated from Lonzalo’s Pizza, from New Port Richey. Mikee Wilkes got shrimp donated from member Sue Craft at Coopers Shrimp Shack. We had everything there but kids.
Also, we never got enough people to man the tent for the Angelus House Forth of July Celebration on June 30th, so we didn’t attend that event. That was another big disappointment.
I realize that things are tight financially for many of us but geez, it didn’t cost a thing to bring the kids to the park to fish, everything was provided, I just can’t understand it.
When I took over for Capt. Henry, I asked everyone what they wanted to do, and we planned everything the membership wanted. I don’t know if members realize that it takes quite a bit of work to see that these events take place and its very disappointing when people don’t show up to enjoy them, after all the time and effort that goes into making these events happen.
The Anclote Island trip is coming up and I’d like to see as many members as possible attend the trip. Once again, all it will cost is a contribution for gas to the Captain if your going to ride on someone’s boat- we provide the food, softdrinks and boats, all you have to bring is your chairs, fishing tackle, sunscreen and whatever adult beverages your going to drink. That’s a pretty cheap trip to have that much fun- last year everyone had a wonderful time.
I want to see all the members take advantage of the things we plan for the club, after all, you requested it. Members can request just about anything reasonable and the officers and their committee members do their best to make them happen, the least you can do is attend.
I hope our future events will  be better appreciated and attended.

Your President,
Emil
