We got the brain trust of the club together and
decided to have the Tournament this year.
May 18th, 19th & 20th we’re going to have the tournament but with a different twist. It will be open to shore & boat fishermen.
Trout, Kingfish & Cobia will be the featured species
that angelers will be after. First and Second Prizes.
The payout is a little less, $3000.00, First Prize $700.00
Second Prize will be $300.00.

But the best part is, we lowered the entree fees!
$40.00 for members, $60.00 non members, kids UNDER
16 years of age is $10.00

We need members to collect money for candy 
for the Chasco street Parade on March
24th. Try to get a $5.00 or $10.00 donation
or more if you can.
We need about $200.00 to by candy to toss to
the kids at the parade. If you get an offer for
candy itself, remember, no lolly pops and all candy
must be wrapped.

It seems about this time every year I have to
report sad news of a brother member passing.
Many of you knew Chip Davis, he owned Leisure
Beach, T-Shirts, Hats and Embroidery, on RT. 19,
next to Zorro Insurance.
Chip was born in Charlotte NC and moved her
in 2004. He was 51 years young.
Chip had been having heart problems for quite
some time. He told me not too long ago that his
heart was only working at about 30%, this is why
he didn’t make many meetings in the past few
years. Chip was so tired after work, he just wanted
to go home and rest after work.
Chip was a true Southern Gentleman. He always
took time to carefully design our tournament
shirts and hats. We couldn’t give he and his
wife Brenda much notice before the tournaments
because of getting sponsors in at the last minute
but Chip and Brenda would work all night to have
them ready for us come tournament day.
I’ll miss Chip, as I know many of the members
who knew him will.
We all extend our deepest sympathy to his wife
Brenda, their children and grandchildren, and his
to Chip’s mother and brother.
God Bless you Chip.
We wish Chip warm sunny days, calm seas and
lots of fish to catch on the other side.

For the most part, our Christmas Party was a big success and a lot of fun. We did have trouble with the way the food was served on time. I talked with Stormies owner Steve and Dave informed me that Steve was only trying to give us more for our money by adding extra side orders. Well, Steve’s good intentions backfired on him and it made it harder to get the food out on time. Both Steve and I apologize for what happened to those who had to wait so long to get served. Next year we’re going to have a buffet style servce and we won’t have this problem.

We’re still looking for more ideas from our members
for things we can do and trips we can plan, and also
make some money.

The Chasco Boat Parades, which are always fun, will be
coming up soon, so we need to get out there and start
collecting money for candy. Last year we over-spent
and we sent the left over candy to our troops in
Afghanistan. We live and learn, but we won’t be buying
 as much candy this year.

We did so well with our fishing package raffle that
we’re going to try to do at least three this year.
We made some money on them and everyone did a
good job promoting and selling the tickets.

This year I started the President’s Award. David
Chambers was the first person to win this award. Dave
has worked so hard for the club this year, he was the 
clear choice for this award. His background as a
executive chef is a great asset to the club. He bought
and donated the tackle boxes that we gave the kids at
their tournament. Along with is work at Anclote
cooking for us there and the Kid’s Tournament, as
well as the many nights he spent setting up and
breaking down the booth at the Angelus Halloween
sware’ was invaluable to the club.
This award may not be given out every year, and
will only go to a member(s) who’s performance for the
club is exceptional.

I think this year, in spite of the economy, we’re going
to have an exciting year and I look forward to doing
more things and having a lot of fun, as well as making
more money for the club.

This is about $400.00 bucks of great equipment for just $2.00 per ticket!   It will make a great Christmas present…and speaking of Christmas-

 don’t forget our Christmas Party on Saturday, December 10th.
Tickets are $10.00 per member and $15.00 for guests. It’s at  Stormies, and at 6PM they’ll be serving Hor’s Devures, (that’s appetizers for those of you from Arapika) and dinner is at 7 PM. We’ll have a cash bar and lots of fun.

President’s Letter, September 2011

Hi Gang, its been a busy and fun year so far, and as it starts to draw to a close, I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me fill in for our beloved Fearless Leader Captain Henry.

I’d like to take a moment to thank Frank Nardi, our Treasurer, Mikee Wilkes, our Tournament Director, Dave Chambers, our Secretary (and club executive chef).
Susan Delosh and Paula Caesar, who volunteer at the drop of a hat and get the job done in excellent form. There are too many people for me to thank for helping me keep the club going, like, Sandy McKevitt, Dawn and Rob Johnson. Even my wife Miriam, who has her hands full taking care of her mom right now, has done her best to keep up with the photos of the club. Don Perry, who makes sure things get set up and get to the places they’re supposed to be. It’s those large and small things that get done that keeps the club going so well. We need and appreciate that kind of help. I know I probably left someone out and if I did, I’m sorry. Incidentally,  at the officers last meeting earlier this month, we made Sue Delosh our official club Membership Director/ Social Director. She has shown a real ability to put things together and with Paula Caesar helping her, what more can I say about that dynamic duo? We have other plans for Paula that we’re keeping under our fishing caps right now, you’ll hear about that soon.
I’d also like to take a moment to thank Eric, Holly and Jade Anderson for opening their home and hosting the Seafood Boil last month. They did a super job of organizing the thing and they went all out to make it a great day. They have also offered to host our October Members Tournament on October 15th.
Let me go back a moment and mention Frank Nardi once more. He has been very patient and very instructional and extremely knowledgeable  when it comes to the club’s business and his help to me has been invaluable. Those of you who may not know this, Frank retired from his very successful accounting firm in Patterson, NJ, the same state I come from, so I know he’s a good fellow. Did I say that wrong? LOL.
Frank’s son runs the firm now. Frank is an expert in accounting and financial planning, and for several years now he has kept the club’s finances in the black, with his expert knowledge and judgement, he has been an immeasurable advantage to the club. But Franks’ getting tired and would like someone to take over the duties of Treasurer so he can enjoy doing  more fishing and less dealing with the numbers. He did his time and did it well. Frank has been in the club for quite  few years now, ( he took over from our original Treasurer, Alex Hamilton) and he thinks its time for someone else to take over. He will assist and over- see the new Treasurer until he feels the new person can do the job properly. Frank will be available for advise and consultation, he will also report to the President how the new Treasurer is doing until everyone feels this ultra important position is in good hands.
Franks says the new Treasurer won’t have to do it exactly the way he has done it, but as long as it’s all ledgeable and correct, he’ll be happy and be glad to help the new Treasurer in any way he can.

The candidate for Treasurer must be financially stable and must posses outstanding moral and ethical qualities. It’s not a job the club will hand over to just anyone. If you’re interested in the position and feel you can handle it, please make one of the officers aware that you’re interested.

Dave chambers has also expressed that he would like to see someone else take over the Secretary duties next year, and since Bob Madsen has had to take extra care of his wife Daisy, who has been very ill lately, Bob may not want to go on with the Sgt. At Arms duties next year, we’ll have to see how it works out in the next few months and see how he feels about it. We do have someone interested in the job if Bob can’t continue.
Nominations will still be accepted for anyone who is interested in serving as an officer. We’ll be accepting nominations at the October meeting and on the floor before the actual election at the November meeting.
This brings us to the President and Vice President’s positions.
I have asked Captain Henry to notify me if he intends to run again and he will let me know before the next meeting in October.

If Henry does not want to run due to being away for so long, and as of right now, he doesn’t know when he may be back. If that is the case, I will be interested in running for President, then we’ll have to nominate a new Vice President, and there is someone who has expressed an interest if I was to be elected President. But, anyone can nominate a member they feel they want in any of the officers positions. (those people also have the right to refuse to accept the job, so check with them first so they aren’t embarrassed if they don’t want to be nominated)

I’d like to see some of the younger members run for officers positions. I’ve expressed this at the meetings lately because I don’t want to see the club die on the vine, so to speak. We can’t go on forever with the same old people running the club, we need younger people to take over and keep the club alive and going on in the future for the little kids who, in the future will keep the club going.
I’m very pleased with all our members and how, since we lowered the dues, our membership has increased dramatically. I’m also extremely happy with the quality of our new members who are very nice and are interested in the club and are getting involved. This pleases me very much because it’s been so much more fun now with more people involved in our activities. Lowering the dues was not entirely embraced by everyone at the time I suggested it, but it has paid off much better than even I expected it to.
Also, when we invested in our new website we have been getting more members through Pay Pal, which has been a real advantage to  making membership easy.
Speaking of the website, I think we need to let more people know how useful and fun the Forum section can be. You can enter fishing Reports and For Sale items can also be advertised on our own club site free of charge. We even have a section on getting people together to go fishing. With gas prices as high as they are today, people can use the extra help paying for gas and bait and when two to four guys want to go out fishing, it’s much easier to get out there that way than going alone. Its more fun too! Just start checking out the Forum Section under the top of the home page where it says,  “About Us” and go to the bottom of that window that opens up and says PHFC Forum and get a lot of information. You can even email other registered members in the Forum.
To wind things up, I’d like to say its been fun and exciting for me to be filling in for Henry for the last 8 or 9 months, I forget how long it’s really been. I appreciate all the help I’ve gotten from all of you and am looking forward to finishing out the year  in good form and we’ll see what happens for next year when we have nominations in October and November meetings and elections at the November meeting. That’s going to be a pretty important meeting, so please try to make it.

Member, Don Surenkamp, who owns Patriotic Fireworks, and who has  generously donated to our Tournaments in the past, has asked us for some help by getting involved with his pet project the Angelus Foundation.
The Angelus Foundation assists mentally and physically challenged people in several ways, with wheel chair assistance and many other vital needs.
We need volunteers to man our booth which we’ll be setting up at the Haunted Angelus grounds on Hudson Ave ( see the map link below) starting on September  30th at 5PM until 8 PM, Friday, Saturday and Sundays, every weekend until and ending on Halloween night, October 31st.
We’ll be recruiting new members and selling tournament shirts, donating the proceeds of the shirt sales to Angelus. And of course, we’ll be hanging out and having some fun. (you can dress up as your favorite ghoul while you work our booth, just don’t scare potential members away, LOL)
They also can use some help building sets and even use some “trail actors” for the show!  (trail actors for the cemetery walk and haunted house, where you dress up like a a ghoul and scare the hell out of people) Would you like to try driving the Hay Wagon ride? Go down and see Don!  If your into Halloween and like to dress up and show some kids a good time and have a blast doing it, then this is an event for you!
But mainly we need you to call either Paula Caesar or Emil to set up a day or two, and it would be even great to do a full weekend at our booth for a very good cause. If your a latent actor, well, you have all week to play your heart out in the County’s premier fun Horror Show!
